History of Imam Khomeini Hospital
The origin of the Imam Khomeini Hospital Complex (formerly known as the Behehloei Hospital) dates back to 1938. With the increase in population and the expansion of higher medical education in Iran, and with the general interest in building and expanding modern hospitals that were rapidly growing in all parts of the country, great effort was made in the early 1931s to establish a hospital in Tehran on an area of 230 thousand square meters. The hospital’s foundation was laid in 1938 and the building was completed in 1946. The original part of the hospital was built by a German construction company. During World War II, the hospital had a stormy carrier for 5 years when the Allied forces settled in the building and used it as a military hospital. When the armies withdrew and the war ended, the hospital was finally opened to care for patients. The hospital officially began operating in 1946 by starting and launching several important clinical wings, where the need to expand the hospital was urgent. The Children’s Medical Center (1969) was established, and the Vali-e-Asr Hospital (formerly known as the Eqbal Hospital) (1975), and the Outpatient Clinic Building (1975) were built within the hospital campus. It is the largest hospital complex in Iran and consists of two hospitals and two medical centers, including the Imam Khomeini Hospital, Vali-e-Asr Hospital, Cancer Institute, and Medical Imaging Center.
